How are firearms connected to the humanities?

Inge Mclaurine: The Chinese are generally considered to have invented gun powder and firearms (guns). China invented gun powder in the 9th century and guns in the 12th century..This culture spread throughout the west, Humans have always been in conflict so World war one became an arms race. (people racing to create the best arms to rule the next man for ideological and economic purposes. Some say the best inventions are created out of necessity, and that all wars do is evolve better ways of killing the next man, but wars also cause the necessity from which inventions are created!Without humanity we would be no better than the mindless beasts we feed from, which it has to be said is a fair description of so called humanity sometimes....Show more

Manual Burtis: Its a short paper, 4-6 pages total. I know the topic is pretty broad but all I'm looking to do is establish a clear connection between the humanities and firearms, as well as its affect on the arts. I was loo! king at those engraved rifles and pistols of Renaissance times and connecting them to the Renaissance arts and go over oriental elements of the topic. I was going to look for paintings too and eventually work my way into more modern forms of media (like westerns and action films). Its an intro to humanities course that is all online, I'm not too certain what counts as humanities for my professor as I thought that history was a part of it but hes an artsy type and the majority of the curriculum ended up being nearly completely art involved and whatever wasn't was connected to art somehow. At this point I'm om the fence about whether I should make my paper just a quick broad assessment of the effect of firearms on the humanities, or narrow it down somehow while covering all the requi...Show more

Roosevelt Pendill: In many cultures, gun is soon as a symbol of strength and power.

Miguel Densley: Literature and the performing arts are part of humanities study â€" the! re are any number of approaches you could take to involve fire! arms in your work. You can also look at the construction and design of guns, compare a Renaissance cannon or decorated Chinese cannon with a Holland and Holland shotgun, discuss the necessity of “beautifying” a killing machine....Show more

Ezekiel Kadner: you need to narrow it down. Firearms have been in common use in the west for 700 years, and even longer than that in the east. if you narrow the focus of your paper you'll have a much easier time. a few suggestions off the top of my head: firearms in popular culture, such as in the wild west and later depictions of the wild west, firearms as depicted in the first half of the 20th century, or Firearms in revolutionary art and propaganda. or, choose a firearm and then analyze its story and impact. there have been entire books written on the Avtomat Kalashinikova, its development and its cultural impact. You can't plausibly write a "short paper" that manages to fairly encompass the total impact of firearms on human h! istory....Show more

Matt Gerdeman: There is a plethura if info on the gun and its social impact. Look up colt peace maker, iorn side cannon, french fouling peice. Darringer, thompson, gatling, ma'duce, potato digger, luger, assassins gun, henry repeater, kentucky long rifle, pennsylvania long rifle, blunderbuss.I don't know where to start. You have to write a short paper or a book.
