Raising my babies vegetarian..?

Chris Rosenkranz: yeah, eat beans, they a r e g r e a t!

Brock Anwar: Being a vegetarian can be both good and bad for anyone. It depends on if your diet is still balanced without the meat. Meat is not bad for you at all in moderation which is true for most foods. This video makes some claims that have very little support. Meat and dairy make you fat? This may be true if that's all you eat but has very little basis if you eat a balance diet which is true for cholesterol and heart disease. The main argument your husband is making is a valid argument and can help you consider what the diet should consist of. "They are growing boys" is telling you they need protein, but they can get their protein through beans and tofu. I am not saying that you shouldn't be a vegetarian but you need to think this through more and not base it on the feelings from the video. Can you realistically get your kids to eat tofu and! beans as their main protein source? Eating meat has been around for centuries and is part of the circle of life. We were created as omnivores but I think it's the persons choice to make. For the 6 year old you should ask him because he is old enough to choose....Show more

Jonathon Labonne: I know 3 vegetarians, my mom, one of my friends, and some girl at school that I talk to occasionally (but I don't know if I believe that she is......) I talk about food all the time with my friend and we talk about how horrible it is that fur and leather are trendy. We also talk about how horrible animals have it and how stupid people are for not understanding what they go through on factory farms. I also know 2 vegans, the librarians at my school lol. And I talked to them for a few minutes about why consuming anything from animals was wrong but that was it. I'm vegetarian going vegan btw.and obviously I talk about food all the time with my mom considering I'm 15 and she still c! ooks for me usually ^-^ hope I answered your question :)

Gordon Showes: I have only met 2 vegetarians. One is an old friend who does it for allergy reasons and the other I barely know or talk to.Lol I wish there were more vegetarians and vegans in my school.

Darcie Peraha: Natural flavor could be meat derived. Besides that sounds disgusting, just get normal grits and add stuff to it.

Shaun Rapkowicz: I know very few vegetarians, not even 1 vegan.I was wondering how many do you know who have the same livestyle as you do.Meaning,do you discuss recipes, new trends, etc.

Colby Millberg: I've met 5 people who are vegetarianAnd I've met one vegan. But I only discuss my lifestyle with one of the vegetarians, who's my friend. And the vegan I met, she was my teacher a couple years ago and sometimes she would talk to our class about veganism. But we never really talked about it much. Hope this helped!!!

Antonia Quinnett: My parents are vegetarian and so my brother and I have always been vegetarian too. Three of my cous! ins are vegetarians too, and always have been (my mother's sister is a vegetarian too). My boyfriend stopped eating meat when he was 4 (it was his choice... I know, young, right?). I've met several people who were raised without meat too. My point is, I know quite a few people who never had any meat, since their birth. And none of them ever had any problems. I never had a health problem, I've never needed to take any supplements of any kind, and my blood tests are more than great - my doctor was amazed. No growing problems either, my brother and I are both tall (I'm 1m76, I'm a girl). Never been skinny either, sadlly ;-)Your husband should look up a little information about nutrition, it would reasure him. There is absolutly nothing in meat that you can't get from other ingrediants. If he's worried about protein, there is actually more in soy than in meat or fish. I think you are making the right decision by not giving your kids meat. I'll never thank my parents enough for! not choising to kill animals for me....Show more

Merlin Fleischh! acker: Sounds like your worried about protein? Don't be. First the FDA recommends 10% of calories are protein. The world health organization recommends 5%. Mothers milk, what a baby needs during the time of the most growth is only 5% protein. You really only need 2.5% of your diet to be protein. And if you are still worried about it, fun fact: both broccoli and spinach have more protein than steak. As long as your eating a varied diet with plenty of nutrient rich vegetables and whole grains you will get everything you need....Show more

Hunter Beech: ive been raw vegan for over a year and dont no 1 single vegetarian or vegan lol

Horace Escue: My fiance was raised Vegan, as was his brother - his brother and his sister in law are raising their child Vegan too. It is perfectly healthy as long as you know precisely what vitamins, minerals and nutrients your child needs most and how to give them supplements. I would just swap their lunch meats for fake Bacon, fake mea! t (great source of protein) give them heaps of Brazil nuts and orange juice (good for calcium) and Bananas (Vitamin B) or give them children's centrum, not sure if it is available where you live, but in Australia it is a multi vitamin supplement. You should get the kids checked out once a month at the doctors, and see a nutritionist at the start, so you can learn what to do with your children s dietary needs. Good-luck and congratulations on becoming a Vego! I am really proud of you and all the work and dedication I can see you are putting into your new life-style!...Show more

Theresia Fashaw: I know a few other vegans, I work with one other lady who is vegan, I've been friends for over 10 years with another vegan. I have about 5 vegetarian friends and my sister is also vegetarian. I've been vegan for almost two years. We do discuss recipes and websites and things of that nature, but not all the time, only if we see something we want to share with each other. I'm luck! y to live in a very vegan/vegetarian friendly area: there are several v! egan restaurants within a ten mile radius of where I live....Show more

Tomeka Hameen: http://www.sdada.org/position.htmThis site is a good place to start researching whether a vegetarian lifestyle is right for you. I know of many families who have raised their babies on a vegetarian diet and they are very healthy and strong. Following is the Vegetarian Food Pyramid that is recommended for vegetarians. Examples of servings and serving sizes as follows:GRAINS6-11 servings daily of fiber and vitamin rich foodsExample: 1 slice bread, 1/2 cup cooked rice, cereal or pasta, 1 cup dry cereal, 1 bagel, 1 tortilla, 1 pitaVEGETABLES AND FRUITS7-9 servings daily or more of phytochemical and vitamin rich foodsExample: 1 cup raw vegetable salad, 1/2 cup cooked vegetables orfruits, 1/2 cup dark green and deep yellow vegetables,1/4 cup dried fruitDAIRY OR ALTERNATIVES2-4 servings daily of calcium and vitamin B12 rich foodsExample: 1 cup dairy milk, or fortified non-dairy alternative! s,1 cup low fat yogurt, buttermilk or cottage cheese. Non-dairy alternatives must befortified with 25% or more of the RDA or RDI of calcium, vitaminB12, vitamin D and vitamin ALEGUMES, NUTS AND SEEDS2-4 servings daily of protein rich foodsExample: 1/2 cup cooked dried beans or peas, 1 egg or 2 egg whites,1/2 cup tofu, 1/2 cup meat analogs, 1/4 cup of nuts or seeds or2 tablespoons of nut butter.FATS, OILS AND SUGARS (Food from group number five)2 tablespoons vegetable oils rich in linoleic acid, such as canola, olive soy, sunflower or corn. Use desserts sparingly, which are high in sugar and fat....Show more

Ermelinda Stalnaker: I think that maybe this is something you should speak to a nutritionist or a doctor about? If you really do, do it properly it should be fineI mean, i personally believe that we were not designed to eat meat, therefore it should be fine, but it will be something that has to be planned out. Also, give your kids the choice...imagine how difficu! lt it might be for them at birthday parties etc...Show more

Jacqu! es Teri: i know many these days, but that is because i have sought them out, joined groups, etc. i don't think i knew any at all before i became one.

Jodie Capella: You should include grains, vegetables, and fruit. You are only eating beans, milk, and eggs. That isn't healthy. There is no need for meat substitutes.

Joni Ziak: Raising vegetarian children is quite possible and healthy. However for you to make the decision unilaterally is unconscionable. Their father is their parent also.

Jen Maday: I'm 20 years old and I've met exactly 1 vegetarian and 1 vegan in my entire life (I'm in Texas). There aren't very many of us for sure. :)

Shawn Lelis: Sh*t :)

Delmy Varano: My dad is vegetarian... I inherited his rejection of meat (and dairy) and am vegan. My cousin is vegan, again not by choiceI know of 5 other kids that are vegetarian (due to ethics), and 2 other adults that are also (but not vegan and they eat white meat).So.....1 vegan and 8 vege! tarians (6 if you exclude the white meat-eaters). It's not a very high number :(People usually like to discuss the cruelty of animals etc. and not what they eat as much.

Esteban Lyson: It might be safe, but it might not be vegan. As Marko said, Natural Flavor could be animal based. http://www.quakeroats.com/contact-us.aspx is the contact us page for quaker. E-mail them and ask them what the natural flavors are. I concur that it would just be better to get the unflavored and add what you want to it. Bacos are vegan, so add some vegan margarine and some Bacos if you want a similar taste....Show more

Lino Cawthorne: Green beans dont count as protein as the beans inside are not fully developed. They count as a portion of vegetables but not protein.Beans together with wholegrains/nuts/seeds = complete protein equal to meat. You need to eat 2 servings of beans/lentils/chickpeas a day. there are all kinds of different beans - black, red, kidney, pinto, aduki, mun! g, fava, broad, lima. Try to eat all of them regularly plus chickpeas ! and lentils (again there are many different kinds of lentils, red, brown, green, black, french)Ideally eat 1 serving of beans every day, and 1 serving of lentils a day.You also need to eat at least 1 serving of wholegrains (brown rice, oats, wholewheat, millet, quinoa, corn) and at least 1 serving of nuts or seeds. You can make nuts or seeds into milk or cream or icecream, or raw cakes or pies (google for recipes). You can make nut roast or nut cutlets. Or nut butter.beans+grains = complete proteinlentils+seeds/nuts = complete protein. You don't have to eat them at the same meal, but you do need to eat them both every day.You should also eat fruit and veg, as should meat eaters. You are recommended to eat at least 5 servings of fruit and veg a day. There should be at least 1 serving of dark leafy greens a day, at least 1 portion of fruit, and 1 serving of cruciferous veg (broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, cabbage, kale, purple sprouting broccoli) and 1 root veg...! .Show more

Kaley Lappas: LOOOOOOOOL "Eat, or be eaten" That's the best quote EVER! :-D

Collin Pelfrey: I don't have issues with raising your child vegetarian-as long as you do it in a healthy way. But it is wrong to make such big decisions for your family without taking your husband's feelings into a consideration. You need to talk to him and let him know the reasons that you're doing this and let him know that his opinion is important too (because it is, or atleast it should be). Why don't you and your husband have a conversation with the children's pediatrician about what a healthy diet will be for your children. I think if you let him know that you're not just going ahead with whatever you want to do with or without him you'll find that you have a lot more support....Show more

Filiberto Ranalli: I've been vegetarian for like 7 months now, lacto-ovo vegetarian, and I was wondering if I'm getting what my body needs, I eat beans usually like peas, green be! ans etc and I usually drink a cup of milk or eat boiled eggs, am I miss! ing something important that my body would need?I'm a 20 years old male...Ah, and It's sort of hard to find all the meat/chicken substitutions where I live.

Rodolfo Merel: want a large number of friend we have 100's of friends in different parts of the country and not as many known friends that are actually family around the world.Find a Seventh Day Adventist Church and ask them if you can eat with them the next time they have a dinner. you will find many fun wonderful awesome eating at these places and the more you visit as you travel you will find more of a variety of good eats. Not Amish or Dutch but just as good a cooks.

Cody Petrulis: There is a reason you husband says the kids need meat. Being a healthy vegetarian is very difficult. You can't get every kind of protein you need from plants. It's hard to get different kinds of protein, iron, and minerals from plant, but can be quite easy from meats, and dairy. Especially with how picky kids can be, it's a ! dangerous time to try a risky diet.

Blair Abdi: 1 vegetarian0 vegansI'm not a liberal arts major so my exposure to "sensitive" people is limited.

Ty Kirton: How about Pasta, or something that has carbohydrates?

Riley Migl: A well planned vegetarian or vegan diet is healthy for all stages of life, from in the womb to elderly. If your husband were also vegetarian, I would say go for it and raise your kids vegetarian. However, your husband does eat meat, there is going to be meat in the house, and you're going to turn into the bad person in the eyes of your kids if you're forcing them not to eat something that their dad is eating "because you said so". Explain to your kids why it is mommy doesn't want to eat meat, but be careful with what you say, you don't want to scar them for life. For the one year old, I think a simple "Mommy likes animals, and she doesn't want to eat them" works, your older kid could get a bit more detail, but don't go overboard. Let the! m know you still love them either way, but there is a reason that you p! ersonally don't eat meat. If they decide that they don't want to eat meat either, then take them to a nutritionalist, both for their health and to put your husband's mind at ease. You're going to get criticism, that's unavoidable. If your kids are healthy, then you know the criticism is unfounded....Show more

Nadia Crauswell: i've got been eating specific ok every day for breakfast for a protracted time. i've got replaced over to Quaker instantaneous Oatmeal for the previous couple of weeks. that is speedy and elementary. Cereal is robust! ?D

Lady Laflin: This website, run by the Mayo Clinic and has a copy of the vegetarian food pyramid on it. Use it when planing your meals. Hilma Pestano: Tofu is a good source of protein, and is so bland it will take on the flav! ours of anything you add to it as it cooks.

Toya Braskett: There are numerous reasons why children shouldn't eat meat. It's bad for them. Most people think that meat is the way to go, but they also used to think the earth was flat. Look how far we've come.I'm seventeen and I've been vegetarian since I was thirteen or fourteen. Puberty is an ESSENTIAL time to get your nutrients, as your body is setting itself up for the rest of your life. There should be no problem raising your kids this way. They're probably going to get even more nutritious meals. Just making sure they have all the vitamins they need and all the same nutrients is the tricky part. You have to remember that they are kids, so they're going to be picky. Good luck!...Show more

Burt Stoecklin: yeah, outside of the coloring that is mostly natural and definitely NOT meat or dairy

Sheree Hipwell: So I'm going grocery shopping today and I was going to pick up some of Quakers instant grits. As a ve! gan, i noticed that almost all of the flavors are like cheddar cheese, ! ham n cheese, country bacon flavor..The ingredients for country bacon are: SPECIALLY PROCESSED DEGERMINATED WHITE CORN GRITS, TEXTURED VEGETABLE PROTEIN (TEXTURED SOY FLOUR, SOYBEAN OIL, WATER, SALT, HYDROGENATED STARCH HYDROLYSATES, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR, HYDROLYZED SOY PROTEIN, SUGAR, CARAMEL COLOR, CITRIC ACID, POTASSIUM SORBATE, YELLOW 6, RED 3), SALT, CALCIUM CARBONATE, REDUCED IRON, NIACIN*, BHT AND CITRIC ACID (AS PRESERVATIVES), THIAMIN MONONITRATE*, RIBOFLAVIN*, FOLIC ACID*.*ONE OF THE B VITAMINSSo is that safe to eat?...Show more
