King Bringle: You can transfer your plates to a car you own. Operative word there is "own". Until you transfer the title into your name, it isn't "officially" your car. You can't just mail in the title, it's going to take a trip in because you have no idea what the fees are going to be to do the title transfer.Since you have to go in, just do everything at the same time.
Elden Bardach: What happened when I bought my last car from a private owner was I took the title that we had both signed to the dmv, and they gave me a new title with my name and everything on it. That was in Ohio, and I'm sure the rules are different in different states, but that was how I did it.
