Branden Roddick: In a car, you have privacy. You're not sitting next to a stranger. Unless you have kids or you're a slob, your seats aren't sticky and your car doesn't smell. On a bus or a train, you might be forced to sit next to someone. There's garbage and it smells. If it's rush hour, good luck finding a seat.There's no practical way to make mass transportation as easy as owning a car. With a car, you can just go. With mass transportation, you're stuck waiting. Waiting for a bus in the winter or the rain sucks, even if it's only for 10-15 minutes. Train stations are dangerous at night in some areas. We would have to have a tremendous amount of buses and trains running ! for it to be as easy as getting in the car and driving. That would be far too expensive. Not enough people would use it for it to keep going (many buses are being taken off the road due to the fact that not enough people use them).I only use the train when I'm going to the city. It's cheaper and quicker than driving there (bumper to bumper traffic), I don't have to search for a parking space for 20 minutes, I don't have to drive with idiot taxi drivers and the train station is close to my usual destinations.
