Elden Bardach: 1. Providence Line is longest as of 2012. 62.9 miles2. Fairmont is shortest. 9.2 miles, but so far it travels the same tracks as Forge Park/495. The Needham Line is the shortest separate rail line. 13.7 miles3. Providence Line, then Framingham. 4. When a line has 2 names, there will be one train going to one destination, then a second going to the other. The trains themselves don't split and there usually aren't buses unless there's line trouble. 5. Far more people go to Framingham than go to Worcester. Some Lines are usually known by the end of the route and by the major destination. Not all trains on the Worcester/Framingham line go all the way to/from Worcester, but every train stops in Framingham. Here's the schedule -- notice 4 trains start in Framingham. http://www.mbta.com/schedules_and_maps/rail/lines/... Not every train stops at every station. If your station isn't one of the named stations, you need to really be careful of the schedule, or you c! ould see your station streak by. 6. The Needham line, the Providence Line, and the Worcester share tracks for one stop then the tracks split. 7. The tracks north of North Station are like spaghetti. Google North Station Map and follow the tracks. There's routes splitting off, train yards, all kinds of tracks. Amtrak also uses this track for the Downeaster.Feel free to email me with other questions....Show more
